Align YourSELF in the land of the Mayans

5 day yoga retreat at Xixim Luxury Resort in Celestun, Yucátan

White sand beaches and pink flamingos are the backdrop to your yoga adventure. Explore a new part of the incredible variety Mexico has to offer. Discover natural beauty and learn about Mayan culture.  Go deeper into your yoga practice and connection to yourself. Discover more movement and freedom, more strength and stability. XIXIM is  space of peace; a place to find your balance again; to discover harmony with nature, a place to re-discover yourself.

You will enjoy 2 classes (2 hours each) each day with plenty of time to relax and enjoy the surroundings.  When not in class can chill out under the shady ramada resting areas, sunbathe, play volleyball, or sail in a kayak, all without additional cost. ) In the Gulf of Mexico the sea is shallow and very calm in the morning, so swimming in its warm waters is a pleasure.

Jen is a California girl at heart but lived enough years in New York to consider herself a New Yorker she now lives in San Miguel de Allende.  Jen was introduced to yoga as a teenager by her mother but didn’t show much interest until a repetitive injury led her to yoga. Once she discovered Iyengar yoga, she dedicated herself completely in 2005 when she joined the teacher training program at the Institute of Iyengar Yoga New York and became certified in 2008.  She has learned what yoga can do for one’s life physically, mentally and spiritually and is eager to share it with anyone who is interested.

She regularly travels to India to study directly with the Iyengar family including BKS Iyengar and studies regularly with her teachers in Mexico and the US. She enjoyed the exciting busy life of New York City working as a theater director, sign language interpreter and studying with some of the best yoga teachers in the US and beyond.

She now lives in a big, quiet house a far cry from the one bedroom apt in Brooklyn, with her incredibly smart and life-saving dog (Belgian Shepherd, Malinois) who found her 11 years ago on the same day as her sister’s birthday. She names her Mika after her late sister. She loves living in a sunny place and hearing birds chirping at all hours. Since arriving in Mexico, Jen has learned the language fairly well and regularly teaches in Spanish. She still uses her fluency in American Sign Language to hold retreats and interpret now and again.

Made in Brazil with Mexican ingredients, Rosa Santana, Iyengar Yoga Certified, has been studying, teaching, and propagating the therapeutic art of Iyengar Yoga since 1995. She was drawn to the mental and physical discipline after suffering three accidental falls, one of which fractured her tailbone. Since healing her back, neck and sciatica pains, she has introduced yoga to thousands of students who had never experienced this healing art and science.

In 2002, she founded Yogarosa, which has become a respected yoga studio in the classical teachings of Iyengar Yoga. She has hosted numerous internationally recognized teachers and continues to teach and mentor yoga students as well as yoga teachers.

She has had the privilege of studying directly with Yoga Master BKS Iyengar, as well as his daughter, Geeta, and son, Prashant in India. Rosa has presented the benefits of Iyengar Yoga as a Guest lecturer at Nova Southeastern University, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society of South Florida and Puerto Rico, and the National Parkinson’s Foundation. She leads Iyengar intensives in the US, and internationally.

She believes yoga is accessible, healing, and transformational to all who try it.
